Our History

Growth & Internal Expansion > Communications and IT Services

In 1995, Valmont completed the acquisition of the Microflect Company. Microflect designs, manufactures and installs communication structures, passive repeaters, waveguide supporting systems and components for the wireless communication markets. The merger moved Valmont from being just a supplier of communication poles to a broad product and service provider to include communication poles, towers and components as well as installation and follow-on maintenance services for the wireless communication industry. In 2001, Valmont acquired PiRod, Inc., a premier manufacturer of towers, poles and components for the wireless communication industry.

ValCom, a microcomputer reselling business, was established as a division of the Company in 1982, and was incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valmont in 1985. In 1987, ValCom completed an initial public offering of its common stock. In 1991, ValCom Inc., a 78 percent owned subsidiary of Valmont, merged with Inacomp Computer Centers, Inc., to form InaCom Corp, a leading reseller of microcomputers for business applications.
