Computer Controls
Valmont's integration of computers into modern farming practice led to another significant breakthrough in the 1980s: the cams™ Management System. cams enables farmers to quickly, easily, and confidently program and monitor their center pivot and linear equipment to accomplish a full range of irrigation, chemigation, and fertilization functions, all based on time, date, field position, crop grouping, soil type, and other variables. Once the information is programmed in, the panel ensures that the correct amount of water (or chemicals or fertilizer) is delivered to each section of the field, automatically making adjustments as the span passes over different crops and soil types.
In 1991, Valmont unveiled the cams Base Station. The ease and efficiency of computer programming was thus moved from the field to an office, den, or living room. The grower could now control and monitor dozens of pivots or linears from one location when a modem and radio transceiver are attached to each panel.
Valmont continues to lead the industry with computer control technology:
- Valley Pro2 panel - This upgraded control panel offers: (1) immediate response to keyboard controls; (2) increased reliability, which improves program operation and performance; (3) easier editing of programs and instructions; and, (4) protection from power surges and other risks; and, (5) back lighting on the LCD display for easier reading at all hours. The Valley Pro2 can be remotely monitored and controlled with the Tracker SP and from the Valley Base Station.
- Valley Select panel - The Valley Select control panel offers: (1) increased position reporting; (2) improved circuit protection, which minimizes electrical damage; and (3) Valley Select can be remotely monitored and controlled with the Tracker SP and from the Valley Base Station.
- Valley Basic and Mechanical panels - manual operation panels control essential functions, including Start/Stop, Forward/Reverse, Wet/Dry and Rotation Speed. They can be remotely monitored by the Tracker and the Valley cams Tracker Communications Center.
- Tracker and Tracker SP - monitor and control irrigation equipment remotely by phone or internet. Save time, money and gain peace of mind knowing your pivot will call you if it shuts down.
- cams Base Station - monitor and control irrigation equipment - from one to hundreds- from your home or farm office. Set alarm call outs when you're not near the computer. Engineered specifically for each customer.
